The previously introduced mission in Japan, dealing with the discovery of Kubilay Khan’s fleet, is strictly connected to another scouting expedition of ours. In fact, it gave us scientific and material proof and, as consequence, an even stronger support to the complex and fascinating theory which supposes that Marco Polo had never landed in China.
The theory supposes that the Italian trader Marco Polo just stopped on the Black Sea coast, and then used, in his Milione, the descriptions, the reports and the stories heard by Persian traders. This famous theory is widely supported by our director, the archaeologist Dr. Daniele Petrella and is now arising debates, awaking general interests, and is on international routes of information. As direct consequence, Archeologiattiva is now arranging one more mission: the archaeologists from the Black Sea coast will trace Marco Polo’s trip to China, looking for the ultimate proof about the trip, so to be able to solve doubts and debates. Our team is meant to involve in this interesting mission Dr. Frances Wood, Head of the Chinese Department at the British Library of London, who shares Petrella’s theory since 1995.
